No. 680.
Homer Price and Katie Price, Ex Parte, for adoption of James Robert Lakey.
IN THE DISTRICT COURT OF LIPSCOMB COUNTY, TEXAS. SEPTEMBER TERM 1937.
The Court heretofore having appointed Paul Trenfield to
investigate the condition of said child and the family and home of
the petitioners for the purpose of making a report to this Court
concerning said child and said petitioners.
Comes now Paul Trenfield in the above styled and numbered
cause and reports to the Court that he has been acquainted with the
petitioners, Homer Price and Katie Price, since the year 1921; that
they are white, healthy persons, and have always behaved themselves
as become good moral characters. They have heretofore lived in
Randall County, at Canyon, Texas and own a modern residence there,
but they have been living in Lipscomb County, Texas, at Follett for
over two years. They live in a five room house, in good repair,
running water, electric lights and electric refrigerator, a well
furnished house, they are living in a rented house. Katie Price is
teaching school and Homer Price is running a cleaning establish-
ment for cleaning and pressing clothes, they employ a reliable
woman at the home to look after the child and keep house for them
owing to the fact that Katie Price is teaching school. Said peti-
tioners are financially able to care for said child properly, and
give him proper education. Said child is white, healthy and is
nearly four years of age, having been born on the 14th day of
September 1933 in the County of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma.
Said child has been in the home of your petitioners since the 7th
day of December 1933, having resided in Canyon, Texas up until the
time they came to Lipscomb County, Texas to reside, which is some-
thing over two years, and the said child is now residing and has
been residing in Lipscomb County, Texas for over two years with the
petitioners. Said petitioners have no child of their own and
think a great deal of said child, he is a very nice looking
child and well behaved. He is an illegitimate child, being the
child of Alene Lakey, and Alene Lakey, the mother of said child,
petitioned the Juvenile Division of the County Court of Oklahoma
County, Oklahoma to have said child placed in some home for
adoption and under the order of said Court, the child was placed in
the Home of Redeeming Love, a corporation, whose headquarters are
in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Said Home of Redeeming Love delivered
said child to your petitioners on the 7th day of December 1933 and
had been in their care and custody ever since that date. Said
petitioners made no effort to adopt said child until sometime in
the month of January 1937. They have heretofore made adoption
papers without any order of the Court.
I am glad to recommend that this Court approve the
adoption of said child by your petitioners.
