Handwritten letter from Barbara Riffle to Katie Price
--------------------------------------------------------
					Oct 5, 1990
Dear Aunt Katie,
I just can't tell you how very much I enjoyed our visit. Except for that one visit in Anniston about 1952 from Aunt Eunice & Virgil, I don't think I have ever met any of the Riffles. I'm glad I'm related to you!
The trip was great. My friend in Dallas had done genealogy research & was happy to poke around cemeteries in Ellis County. We found the Riffle plot in Italy. Both Annie Beatrice Hall and Bessie Verea were next to their mother Josephine.
I went back by myself on Monday but the libraries in both Italy & the county seat Waxahachie were closed on Monday. I was given the names of clerk of session & keeper of records of the Italy Presbyterian Church and of the librarian. Now I need to spend some time writing letters.
Enclosed are pictures of Italy & the courthouse in Waxahachie. It was built in 1895. The records dept was opened to me but all I could find was marriage license of Sam & Mary.
I'm ready to spend time in the LDS library here but have had to put on hold.
Singles week at our church starts tomorrow so this Sat is wash, iron, & cook day. Every year we bring in nationally known speaker who works with Singles. This Year is Methodist minister from Irvine, CA. We start at 9am 10/7 & have something every night plus Fri AM breakfast & end with lunch after church on 10/14.
Last year I co-chaired the week so feel as if really have nothing to do this year - just supply covered dish Monday night & preside at Fri breakfast!
It was great to find out the Riffles were Presby. Mom's family joined the church Daddy still attends as near their home. I thought I was only 3rd generation on the Jones side & find out we go back further than that on the Riffles. I knew the Witts were Baptist but Christian or Congregationalist before that.
By the way, Sam probably was at a FORT plantation. There is still an area between Avalon & Forreston known as the "old FORT Farm" by the locals. There were no Forts in the phone book but cotton is still grown there.
Daddy & Ruby are talking about visiting her son in Plano, which is north of Dallas, so maybe I can talk him into going to Italy.
Would you share my address with Verla & tell her that I would love to become acquainted with mor of the Riffles?
	Take care.
					Love,
					Barbara
