Name Martha Ann Sutton Birth 8 Jan 1842 Alabama, United States

Both John C. Sutton and James M. Sutton are shown as parents of a Martha Ann Sutton. It's also indicated that James and John are brothers. So...which Martha is my ancestor? Are either of these Sutton boys her Dad?

[5, 9] - Solemnized at the residence of James M. Sutton of Marshall County. Mr. Sutton was first thought to have been Martha's father, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Perhaps he was an uncle, perhaps he was the pastor in the area.
Justice of Peace Eli Campbell presiding. Co-signer on the marriage bond was a man named William Bondurant. Family Bible gives the marriage date of 12 March (1862, which is probably wrong). Possibly the bond and license were done on the 11th and the ceremony on the 12th. It was wartime, the first child came along only 5 months later.
