      The Spalding Memorial by Charles Warren Spalding, 1896 edition, page 166, entry #1231 records: "Elnathan, born November 16, 1743, in Canterbury, Connecticut; died about 1830, near South Westerlo, New York; married Sarah Dunham; she died prior to her husband's death. He moved from Connecticut to Duchess County, New York, and two years later (about 1806) he moved to Kinderhook, New York, where he purchased a farm of three hundred acres; thence to a farm about four miles west of South Westerlo, Albany County, New Your. He was nominally a farmer, but was a Justice of the Peace for twenty-five years. he was well known for his judicial fairness, and many important cases were tried before him." The record shows seven children: Reuben, Harmon, Guy, Hugh, John, Sarah, and Polly.
