Witness29-Oct-1850She appeared in the census in the household of Curtis Embrey and Rebecca Larue on 29-Oct-1850 at Dwelling 621 in Talladega, Talladega, Alabama, United States. By 1850, it seems that Curtis Embry is perhaps with a second wife and second family. The eldest 2 boys were born in 1835 and 1837, the next 4 children were born between 1845 and 1850, and there is documentation that the marriage between Curtis and Rebecca happened in 1840. While it is possible that Rebecca is the mother to the first two children, it seems more likely that Curtis had a first wife who bore him two sons and then died.1

FatherCurtis Embrey (b. 1809, d. 1900)
MotherRebecca Larue (b. 1819, d. aft Aug-1870)

Family: William Martin (b. 1845)

Biography

Birthbef 4-Jul-1844Elizabeth Embrey was born bef 4-Jul-1844 in Alabama, United States.B Shown as being 24 on August 1870 census1,2,3
Witness4-Jul-1860Elizabeth Embrey appeared in the census in the household of Curtis Embrey and Rebecca Larue on 4-Jul-1860 at Tract 6 Range 4 East in Marshall, Alabama, United States. Curtis and Rebecca Embry were the heads of household, with their 5 minor children. Curtis and Rebecca are both marked as being unable to read and write, their children are all marked as having attended school within the year.

Also in the household were:
Nancy Ross, 61, F, $1,800 real estate, $23,505 personal estate
Angelina Ross, 25, F
J. D. Ross, 21, M, Domestic
F. M. Ross, 19, M, Domestic
Murphy Matheny, 31, M, Retired Merchant, $3,901 personal estate
S.M. Matheny, 27, F
All born in Alabama, other than Nancy Ross who was born in Tennessee.2
married18701870; Conjecture. There is an Elizabeth Martin listed in the household of Curtis Embry in the 1870 census. The age is right for this to be Elizabeth Embry, and the fact that it's 5 years after the Civil War, in Alabama, make it plausible that Elizabeth married a man named Martin who did not survive the war.3
Witness4-Aug-1870Elizabeth Embrey appeared in the census in the household of Curtis Embrey and Rebecca Larue on 4-Aug-1870 at Township 2 Range 1E in Madison County, Alabama, United States.B Curtis and Rebecca both marked unable to write, only Rebecca was marked unable to read. Others in the household are their daughter Martha, a woman - Elizabeth Martin - who would be the right age to be their daughter Elizabeth, possibly a war widow, and James Embry, likely Curtis' father.3
