I can’t draw, so I’m just gonna copy from Publius at BigGovernment
Today is, by some counts, International Draw a Mohammed Cartoon Day. Or, something like that. We totally understand that, to many Muslims, depictions of their prophet is blasphemous. But, we also know∧ will always fight to defend the idea&that, in a free and pluralistic society, a minority, or even a majority, can’t impose their religious beliefs on others. To that end

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a message for wily coyotes out there: Don’t
mess with my dog.Perry says he needed just one shot from his laser-sighted pistol
to take down a coyote that was menacing his dog during an early morning
jog in an undeveloped area near Austin.Perry told The Associated Press he sometimes carries his pistol,
loaded with hollow-pointed bullets, when he jogs on trails because he’s
scared of snakes — and that he’d seen coyotes in that area. When the coyote came out of the brush toward his daughter’s
labrador retriever puppy on a February jog, he charged it and shot it
with his .380 Ruger pistol.“Don’t attack my dog or you might get shot … if you’re a
coyote,” Perry said.

The need: $$ contributions to get the Democrats out of power – nationally and locally
The problem: I’m unemployed, broke, facing inflation, there’s just no extra money for politics. There’s a list long as my arm of things I HAVE to spend money on. Any extra money I have is going to charity. I’d be happy to help candidate “bob” but all I can do is bake cookies / fix plumbing / whatever and candidate “bob” is far away.
The solution: Barter economy! (sorta)
Example: I’ve got some sort of leak in my sprinkler system, and I know nothing about plumbing or pipes and don’t live with a “handyman”, the only skill I’ve got is baking cookies. So I’m going to have to pay some company to come inspect it. I’m budgeting $100 (I wish!). Maybe there’s some conservative person out there that knows a bit about these things, would want to come take a look, if it’s an easy fix he could fix it, and I’d “pay” him in snickerdoodles and Diet Dr Pepper. He’s saved me $100. So I write a check for $100 to some candidate.
See how that works? The money I was going to spend for some task, I can now spend on politics. My fiscal outlay is the same, I get the thing fixed, the political cause is served.
The idea is to answer the question – how do I help some remote political cause when I have no spare money and only the ability to bake cookies / fix pipes / crochet scarves / paint walls, etc.
We join a google group and list our abilities and needs, other folks see if they can match the equation, and then there’s the negotiation of $ for candidate or whatever, and the task gets done, the money gets sent, and we have some sort of brag board.
Is this the germ of a workable idea?
